Classical Questions Being in Therapy

.

Attachment Girl
they also have time between clients to eat and go pee lol, if people all came and went on the hour they wouldn't have a moment to reflect, take notes, listen to their phone calls, etc. i know our T does these in her 10-15 min. between apointments. she also does a lot of reading and takes a lot of outside workshops to continue to learn. it's pricey for sure! scott/antoniRead More...
Hi Shrinklady, All of this makes so much sense. Sometimes just getting a sense through someone else makes me realize that I am ok. But I also tend to be an information junkie. I like to hear that I’m ok or that I will be ok, but I thrive on the information that proves that this is all normal, or explains why this is going on. This is so much of what I needed though I would not have been able to articulate that before. Everything that you stated sounds just like what I am going through.Read More...

A couple of questions

river
Hi River, EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing which is stated to maximize treatment effects of other structured protocols of therapy. This technique was pioneered and developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, possibly 12-14 years ago now. All though it is named Eye Movement Desensitization I do not use the eye movement method, I prefer the use of bilateral audio and/or hand tactile stimulation, which allow for the same processing to take place. This is done in sequences...Read More...

re: touch

Antoni, Great question and probably one that would be best answered by someone who does touch therapy. But I would think its alot like therapy. There's a lot you can learn, but the people who are really gifted seem to have something integral to who they are, an extra gift of empathy, that I don't think you can learn. You just have it or you don't. I think someone without it can learn to be a "good" therapist, but for "great" you need to have something in you. Just like some people can rise...Read More...
AG - I certainly identify with your "box" analogy. And yes, as I was reminded this morning, what we are feeling is natural - its just going against them bad messages. You are so right when you say how easily we see the strength and courage in others but not ourselves. I have spent more time doing and caring for others that I never acknowledged my needs or positive points. No need to be sorry for what you call a 'novel' Mine can be much longer at times, it just means theres alot you want to...Read More...

I talked to my T for a long time about it all. And i have to rememer that my sister also has DID but she doen't actually know it, and she's not at all co-conascious. She's also lacking empathy... I guess what bugged me was that she didn't apologize and seemed insincere. Thanks for asking RobinRead More...

we believe that she is also DID, but not aware of it , perhaps not co-conscious, so she is very inconsistent! also, we believe some of her insiders (at least one) doesn't like some of us for various reasons... last week in T we talked about how to deal with her system. - dudeRead More...

i see.. yeh.. here you can't get liscensure with a MA... and you can get registered as a art therapist but since it's not truly really accepted, most places won't hire you with that alone unless it's a school or something with a program oriented toward art therapy. I love art therapy... i got a chance to take a few courses at my Uni's extension as they have a art therapy program and some of the classes were open to people not in the program. Here, you can get liscensed as a therapist with a...Read More...

Well, I can only give a unprofessional opinion.I recall you saying you are an alter in your system.... do you have 'dreams/nightmares' of others? I know this is the case with another alter I know in someone elses system but he also has the role of an internal therapist too. For me- I feel that when I have nightmares that cause a lot of physiological arousal when I wake up.. I tend to feel it's connected more to my trauma issues even if not a direct memory because it seem's that 'regular...Read More...

Ariellia: Wow.....quite a journey thus far for you......No health care professional has "labelled" me with borderline personality disorder....and I prefer to see individuals as unique intricate beings trying to do their best to navigate through life.....as opposed to a list of diagnoses.....I grew up in a middle class family, the eldest of three children....My father (an alcholic until 1979 when he quit drinking) provided all the materials things that life could offer; however, he failed to...Read More...
