Take this Online Survey

I took it - it was interesting to confess my "googling transgressions" for science

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/finalclient

This study asks about the experiences of people in therapy who use the Internet and who have seen their therapist on the Internet, outside of the therapy session. The goal of our study is to understand when, where, and how often this happens, and how you felt about it. We hope this will help therapists and clients understand the impact of seeing your therapist on the Internet.

Spokeo is a website where you can look up people and it will show you their address, a picture of their house, tell you if they are a registered voter and which party they vote with, their birthday, how much their home is worth, etc. It also will show you any social networks they are affiliated with. It also will list the names of their children and spouses, sometimes.
permafrost, i don't really know. it says to remove yourself you need your 'url address', which, of course, i don't know mine.

anyone know that stuff??

i did look up a few people, funny tho, i looked up my sister, who is on permanent disability/medicare for schizophrenia, and it said her household income was over $800,000!!

so, they do have some bad info!!

jill
Jill,
Do a search on your name on Spokeo, and when you're on the page that contains your information, copy the address in your browser, that's your URL. Paste that address into the form where you're requesting your information be removed.

PF, that web site has nothing to do with the survey, they guaranteed that you would remain anonymous.

BTW, I did look myself up and was amazed how much WRONG information was listed. I deleted my entry.

Wow, Jill, thanks for posting that…. I know where my T lives now… I’m almost positive it’s correct since I already knew what part of the city he lives in. But it says that he makes a absolutely ridiculous amount of money! my jaw dropped when I first saw the number, but then I realized its probably wrong!

I took the survey too, I did have a feeling like I was confessing my sins! thanks for posting that River!

i bagged out of the survey about half way into it...guess i have some paranoia i haven't dealt with. anyway, glad y'all are finding something on that link. the incomes are way off, like i said, my schizophrenic sister on disability is shown making over $800k!! she must have been on a tear when she filled THAT info in!! way to go, sis!!
Yes (well, actually the counseling center T sees me through), once to see what sort of information about his background (specialties, degrees, etc.) he provided, because I didn't want to ask directly. Another time, I tried to see if any sites had reviews on him, because I was blaming him for breaking my coping mechanisms. Once to show my oldest sister what he looked like, because hubby decided it was funny to start making sex jokes about me and T (who he sees separately) and she started joining in...so I wanted to show her that it was really more of a parent dynamic there. I have been tempted to go look at the site to see his reassuring smile when we've had to skip, but I'm still pretty ashamed of my transference stuff, so I usually control that sort of thing.
one thing i wonder about, how DO they keep themselves as much out of the cyber/net world as they do?? i think there is more info on ME that them.

do the t's all circulated stuff about how to stay off the internet? don't ya think they check us out a bit?? address/income??

not ONE of them, and there are five, has had me fill out even a name and address form, how do they go around THAT??

weird. jill
pf, that is about all i found, and phone number i guess for cell. i am bored tonight, and kindof obsessed with finding 'more'. articles written, something. staggering how little there is. i don't think they do facebook. too public.

i guess, since my h checks people out to see if they have the money to do the deals he works, or the credit, that i think the data is so easy to find that they might. it is just weird how i have never filled out anything. odd. j
To anyone who is in therapy in the U.S.

It is the LAW that you must fill out HIPAA paperwork regarding your privacy. The T should also be giving you Informed Consent paperwork to sign.

If they do not offer this paperwork it is against the law and the ethics of the APA or other governing professional bodies. I would consider it a big RED FLAG if you don't get paperwork to fill out.

If you don't.... ask for it!

I learned the hard way.

Totally agree with this. HIPAA laws are very strict and to not fill these out is a violation. They should also have paperwork to fill out for any communication they have with another party regarding you.
I'm thinking I might have done it when I went to one of hubby's sessions. Usually I trust my memory, but this last year has been such a blur and while I don't go full-on DID or anything like that, my dissociative periods are disruptive enough that I can't really rely on sharp, accurate memories anymore. I will double-check with him for sure.
LG - Yeah, I have deleted it from my computer's history, because I'm afraid my H will see it and think I'm ridiculous. But really, I'm trusting this guy with more of "me" than anyone really gets to see. So, I think wanting to know more is pretty natural. I went to spokeo to remove my information yesterday and was tempted, but did not look T up. Smiler
Yeah I had a T for about a year maybe a little less and I googled her and someone wrote something really horrible about her so I told her about it and then she turned on me and asked if I did it and said she was consulting an attorney. That along with other things caused me to terminate my relationship with her. lol
